Survey to Evaluate Impact on Access to Medically Necessary Home Medical Equipment

by People for Quality Care

In 2011, Medicare implemented changes to payment for home medical equipment (HME) and supplies such as home oxygen therapy, wheelchairs, and walkers in metropolitan areas nationwide. These changes are known as Competitive Bidding (CB). Pricing from this program was applied to rural and other parts of the country in 2016, which has since impacted other insurance as well, including Medicaid and private insurance. On January 1, 2019, Medicare temporarily delayed the CB program but kept the old CB rates for the equipment, services, and supplies.

A national initiative is underway to measure the impact this is having on people’s access to medically necessary equipment. Your input will help in this assessment and provide vital information regarding the impact of CB on beneficiaries. All reporting will be in the aggregate; no individuals will be identified without permission
Please indicate your experience with your and/or your loved one’s home medical equipment supplier since January 1, 2019. If you have any questions, please contact People for Quality Care at (800) 404‐8702.
